Here are some ideas for a better life–for all of us. Perhaps this could be the basis for a new religion, but I would say that usually religion causes confusion because people interpret its rules differently, and then they engage in discourse, and finally, dogmatism. This makes religion difficult.
Look at these points, precepts, ‘rules,’ if you want to call them that, and consider them a basis for living well, fairly, lovingly, and compassionately.
Add them to your body of beliefs, or recognize they exist already in your body of beliefs, but notice–if you can–that they stem from, or incorporate a basic idea; humanity is to be about love and respect, and humanity is something that perhaps should be “holy,” fostering a great compassion for each and every one of us, no matter how flawed or ‘bad’ we may be perceived by others who do not have our pains and experience.
- Love yourself, all others, and the environment and all its creatures.
- Always try very hard to fully understand yourself and all others.
- Always try very hard to be fully honest with yourself and all others.
- Make yourself and those you love dearly, healthy and happy without hurting anyone.
- Forgive, yourself, and all others, rather than meting out punishments.
- Make nor follow no philosophy, religion, government, or law that harms or makes others unhappy, unless their ‘happiness’ is harmful.
- Always try very hard–with extreme prejudice–not to lie, unless it will save someone’s life or foster harmless growth in another.
- Always try very hard–with extreme prejudice–not to kill, unless it will save someone’s life or foster harmless growth in another.
- Never cheat, unless it will save someone’s life or foster harmless growth in another.
- Do not steal, unless it will save someone’s life or foster harmless growth in another.
